VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA
Felicia Lo is the owner and creative director of SweetGeorgia Yarns in Vancouver, Canada. We met at her studio/storefront in South Vancouver to talk about how she got started and what inspires her beautiful colors.
The public face of the studio is probably the most cheerful room in all of Vancouver – from the hundreds of deeply saturated skeins to the giant pink wall that sports the SweetGeorgia logo – it would be impossible to be glum here. There is a lovely sampling of the different yarn lines and colorways and a handful of garments and patterns made with SweetGeorgia Yarns.
After our interview, Felicia took me behind the giant pink wall to tour the production facility and see the process of how her yarns go from blank canvases to gorgeous saturated works of fiber art. The workspace is part color studio, part warehouse, and part international packaging room. The SweetGeorgia team was hard at work dying roving and yarn a vibrant pink wand preparing boxes of finished skeins to ship off to customers and yarn stores all over the world.
Felicia was so kind and generous with her time and I had a wonderful day learning more about her inspirations and processes. If you ever find yourself in Vancouver on a weekday, I highly recommend a stop by the SweetGeorgia Yarn studio. And if it happens to be a dark and gloomy day, even better because nothing will cheer you up like a skein (or 5) of SweetGeorgia’s beautiful yarn!
