After an amazing discussion in the Ravelry Designer’s Forum about alternate models of business for Indie Designers (followed by an invigorating chat session), I’m thrilled to announce that Around the World in 80 Skeins will evolve into a global co-op blogzine this summer! It will be part blog, part magazine with content and patterns provided by designers all over the world!
If you’ve been following the journey so far, you know that fiber arts designers are in every corner of the globe. We want to celebrate the international nature of our profession by providing the opportunity for knitwear and crochet designers to share their little corner of the fiber world with you through interesting articles, reviews, interviews, and videos. This will be a great resource for anyone who likes to combine their travel with a bit of knitting/crocheting/yarn shopping or who just want to travel vicariously through others. Our blogzine will give you the skinny on designers’ favorite Local Yarn Stores, indie dyers, and fiber arts travel around the world.
In addition to great articles, we will also release seasonal pattern collections inspired by a different world city. Our first collection will come out for Fall 2015 inspired by where all fashion starts – Paris! There will be womens, mens, and kids patterns from both knit and crochet designers.
The new look of the website is currently in the works, but we’re getting the ball rolling on the first collection now. If you are a designer (knit or crochet) interested in providing a submission, please check out the official call, found HERE.
This co-op blogzine is a way that designers can maintain control over their creations while ensuring fair pay for their hardwork and creativity. We will have a Kickstarter campaign coming soon to help cover the costs of getting started and we hope you will help us make this very cool idea a reality. Stay tuned for more information and get excited because it’s going to be amazing!
