Welcome to Around the World in 80 Skeins – the design site and blog for independent knitwear designer, Kimberly Golynskiy (aka 80skeins)!

Kimberly found her love of design while knitting plastic bags into shoes and fishing nets for her Master’s thesis (for resource poor areas of the world with lots of errant polyethylene – not just for funsies). She found that working with yarn was sooo much nicer and the possibilities to make beautiful things were endless.

Around the World in 80 Skeins began in 2014 as a blog tour interviewing designers from 36 countries. It was fascinating to talk to fiber art designers from all over the world and those conversations spurred on the idea to create something new.

This site will someday transform into a globally focused co-op blogzine with content and patterns provided by designers from around the world. The blogzine will combine the frequent content of a blog with the seasonal pattern collections of a magazine – all with content provided by Indie Designers who are paid fairly for their hard work and creativity! I hope to release the new format sometime in 2016-17, with eventual plans for curated collections of patterns inspired by world cities. Stay tuned!
